The Literacy Project is seeking an Education and Career Advisor/Career Pathways Instructor for our North Quabbin location in Orange. The position is 10 hours per week. The pay rate is $22 per hour.
The Education and Career Advisor assists students with employment and college planning, and facilitates connections with community resources. This position is a member of the team with other site staff, as well as works collaboratively with local social service agencies, community colleges and career centers. Staff meetings are required as part of working hours.
This position includes counseling students on their employment/education goals and facilitating referrals to needed services as well as tracking and entering student outcomes and goals. The position also includes 2 hours per week of community outreach and recruitment of students.
Desired qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and experience with transition-to-college programming, career planning, and job search activities; community-building skills, and the ability to effectively represent the agency in the community; excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent computer skills.
Additional qualifications include experience working with under-educated adults, youth, and newcomer/immigrant populations, plus knowledge of and involvement in the greater North Quabbin area. Job requirements include having your own transportation and being able to travel during the workday as required.
The Literacy Project is a non-profit, community-based organization offering adult basic education and GED preparation services at our classroom sites in Amherst, Greenfield, Northampton, Orange and Ware. The agency incorporates community development, civic participation, computer technology, and arts/culture in its teaching. Our philosophy is based in an empowerment model that is learner-centered and participatory.
