Additional Gallery Hours Added: "Peek Into The Drawers of Ralph L. Henley's Marquetry Furniture". An art show at Stage On Main, 17 South Main Street, Orange, Massachusetts. February 8 3 pm to 5 pm, For many years of his life Ralph L. Henley (1915-2002) pursued his hobby of making marquetry furniture to use in the home he built in Orange Massachusetts. Marquetry is a woodworking technique, on the idea of making jigsaw puzzles, where the craftsman uses wood veneers to construct designs that are then applied to a surface. People are surprised to discover that many of the drawers in Henley's furniture not only stored his family's possessions, but were decorated inside and out with marquetry scenes of sailing ships, animals, and birds. In addition to his furniture, some of Henley's paintings will be on display. A lot of his paintings depict the Town of Orange. The last time they were shown was for the Orange Bicentennial in 2010 where "The Henley Show" exhibited over 40 of his paintings of the Town. His works are scattered throughout the region in private and public collections. Henley's work has appeared in Americana magazine, Yankee magazine, various newspapers, and on regional TV. Although his furniture has been exhibited at several venues, including the Artisan's Showroom in Shelburne Falls, the Arts Council of Franklin County, and Haley's Antiques in Athol, this will be the first time the public will have a chance to "peek into" the drawers of Ralph L. Henley's marquetry furniture. Stage on Main is managed by volunteers for all to enjoy the arts in downtown Orange. Admission is free. Donations gratefully accepted. Light refreshments served.
